Te Wiki o te reo Māori, or Māori Language Week, takes place in September each year and is an important opportunity to promote te reo Māori and recognise its importance within our communities. We all have a part to play in promoting and revitalising the language, and a great place to start is to embrace te reo Māori in our everyday lives, encourage others to use it and make it welcome in our homes and workplaces.
As the largest 100% Kiwi-owned recruitment agency in Aotearoa, Kiwi culture is a big part of our internal business practices and we make it a priority incorporate the Māori language into our daily communications – not just during this important week but throughout the year! For Māori Language Week 2020, our team focused on finding new ways to incorporate Māori phrases into our emails. We all enjoyed exploring the language further, and many of us are making it a regular habit! If you’d like to try it for yourself, take a look at the infographic below for a selection of greetings and signoffs, along with their English translations.
